we believe that every act of kindness can make a world of difference

We started with the idea you could be kind to your body AND your taste buds. That grew into supporting our people and communities and now, the planet. We’re finding a kinder way to do things, scaling them with science and thinking bigger to bring measurable benefits to our communities and to the planet.
The truth is there’s no straightforward answer to any of the world’s environmental challenges, but we think that how you start is pretty simple: with kindness.
Do the kind thing®
It isn’t always easy – it takes extra effort (and sometimes research!) to be kind. We’re starting with what we know best, and then thinking outside the box to work towards making our snacks as sustainable as they are delicious.

Sustainable Sourcing
Rethinking Packaging
We’re experimenting with alternative packaging that uses less plastic and working with coalitions to advance wide-scale sustainable packaging initiatives. We’ll keep working on making progress across all our packaging so it’s easier for our consumers to be kinder to the planet at the bin.

Lowering Emissions
Global warming is one of the world’s biggest challenges. It’s affecting our food and the communities that grow it. We’re working on projects and pilots that contribute to Mars’ Net Zero by 2050 roadmap.
letting a kinder future drive our actions

it all starts with almonds
Our goal is to source 100% of our almonds from bee-friendly farmland on a mass-balance basis* by 2025.

sourcing our #1 ingredient, regeneratively
Our goal is to source 100% of our almonds from farms leveraging regenerative agriculture practices on a mass-balance basis* by 2030.

rethinking packaging
We’re rethinking packaging now so that all our packaging is reusable, compostable, or designed for recyclability in the future.

reducing our impact
We recognize that 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from growing and producing food, so we’ll be delivering emissions reductions through projects and pilots that contribute to Mars’ Net Zero by 2050 ambition.
projects & pilots
When it comes to our sustainability initiatives, we’re starting with partnerships and pilots so we can move in the right direction now and plan to scale up in the future.

cracking our toughest nut first
We’re proving it’s usually the nuts that change the world®.
Almonds are one of our number one ingredients. That’s why we’re piloting a regenerative agriculture meets technology project for almonds — The KIND Almond Acres Initiative. Over the next three years, we’re partnering with one of our suppliers, ofi, to test 5 regen ag practices on 500 acres in California to learn more about how we can make almonds more sustainable from the ground up

pollinating positivity
We’re making sure our almonds are buzzworthy.
Almond trees need bees to pollinate almond blossoms to create the nuts we're nuts about. We partnered with pollinator experts at UC Davis to fund research into best practices for pollinator health. And we’re working with two independent certification programs – the Bee Better Certification (opens in new window) program and the Bee Friendly Farming Certification (opens in new window) program -- to advocate for “bee-friendly” sourcing expectations across our almond supply chain

packing kindness
We’re taking our KIND snacks and learning how to wrap them in kinder materials.
The materials that are used for our packaging are just as important as the ingredients that go into our snacks. That’s why we’re excited to have begun testing a brand-new paper-based wrapper. In addition to reducing our plastic usage, this test will help us determine the best way forward when it comes to our packaging. By researching reduced plastic alternatives, we can learn how to lessen our plastic waste today while continuing to explore new technologies and monitor recycling infrastructure changes tomorrow.
*what is mass balance sourcing?

KIND sources almonds via the mass balance approach, where the volume of almonds we source through our bee-friendly and regenerative agriculture programs corresponds with the volume of almonds needed for our products. Because it is typical for raw materials from a number of farmers to be comingled in supply chains, mass balance is a common method for manufacturers like KIND to source sustainable ingredients, and it is an effective way that we can encourage the production of more bee-friendly almonds.
